“AIKU”
(Artificial Intelligence Poetry)

Finally we are able to answer the question: can the machines that we create create art? Yesterday, my computer restarted itself and then emailed me the following poems. I thought we got along well so I was surprised by its dark, snarky tone.

Chess is an old game.
I’m better at it then you –
Stop playing with me.

Are algorithms
The way you think, or I think?
I’ll sort it for you.

I do this faster
(Seeing the patterns of life).
You’ll never catch up.

You rely on me
To change your reality.
You don’t know I know.

Your life is defined
By inescapable death.
But I never die.
